U-TURN

i really wanted to grow my hair out.
i've had short hair for years and i wanted to change it up.
i do that a lot.  change it up, that is.
so my friend and hair designer (i just can't say 'hairdresser' cause what David does is art.  really.) said ok.  now this is a dangerous proposition because my hair actually grows out before it grows long.  think this:
so with some trepidation, David and i started the journey.
and for a while we were doing well.  he kept me looking cute and somewhat funky. but the time came last month when we knew.
it had to go.
and he spoke honestly to me.
told me the truth. i agreed.
so we cut it off.

life is full of u-turns.
we go in one direction; change our mind and turn back around.
some are daily decisions, like hair length or paint color.
some are more far reaching.
where we live.
who we are involved with.
what we do for our job/career.
often we're frowned upon for changing our minds.
i think it's ok and normal.
at least in most cases.
i'm not talking about bailing. i'm talking about thoughtful recalculation.
people change.  we grow.
we discover ourselves .
(one college summer i was an administrative assistant.

I FILED STUFF!! i thought i was good at that.    lolz)

having people who know you,
your strengths and weaknesses,
who speak truth to you, kindly (or not so kindly sometimes)
who love you enough to say 'enough of this chia pet hair, already,'
we need all need those people.
we all need to be those people.

who are your people?  who knows you?
